Market bombs hit innocent Somali shoppers
The Sydney News.Net Tuesday 7th October, 2008
Witnesses to a market bombing in Mogadishu have said at least 15 people were killed after shells were fired.
Islamist insurgents fired mortars at the presidential palace, while perched in the Bakara market.
Government troops and responded and a shell landed in a busy part of the complex.
The latest deaths come after a coalition of 52 aid agencies issued a statement saying the international community had failed Somali civilians and the UN started to pull out its foreign staff.
Around 40,000 people have been displaced from Mogadishu in the last few weeks, with 1.1 million uprooted in the last nine months.
